Zinsco Electrical Panels – Buyer Beware!!

Yesterday’s inspection in Apache Junction proved to be interesting.  The home was built in 1961 – which should throw up a red flag for inspectors – extra vigilance required.  This home had it’s original electrical panel in place – Zinsco.  These panels and circuit breakers do not offer the same level of protection against overcurrent and fire as other UL Approved Breakers.  This means the home is at greater risk of a potential fire or electrical problems.  It is recommended to have these types of electrical panels replaced with an up-to-date, UL APPROVED, electrical panel by a Licensed Electrician.

For those in the investment market, or buying for rental property – be aware that homes built prior to mid-70′s could have potential problems that may be costly to repair or replace.

As always, it is highly recommended to have any property your buying inspected by a Licensed Home Inspector.
